A long walk that takes you high above the Durance valley, and great views over the Écrins
Description:
From the parking take the GR50 heading north, until the Torrent de combe Brune crosses the road. Here you want to take a footpath on the right side of the torrent; the path climbs and then crosses the torrent.Stay on the path it leads you close to the impressive rock face of the Tenailles de Montbrison. Don’t take any of the smaller paths towards the rock face these are for climber to access their routes. The path keeps going south after a short climb you reach a grassy area, here there isn’t always a path or it’s hard to follow so just keep heading south looking for the high point with the cross on it.
From the cross head southwest and you should pick up a path that descends steeply, care is needed; the path is exposed in places and hard going. You will descend to the Serre des Hieres and then continue down to the Crete de rocher motte. From here there are a few options and forest tracks to get you back, the easiest to follow is the main track, it’s a big 4x4 track and takes you back to the GR50 but it is steep in places, once on the GR50 it’s a short walk back to the parking.
